Matthew 13:24-30, 36-42
In college I watched a Samuel Beckett play called “Waiting for Godot,” about two characters who are waiting for a guy named Godot who never appears. The meaning of their lives seems to be wrapped around this character, so that when he doesn’t appear, their lives are meaningless – a very frustrating story. Waiting for God can feel frustrating as well, and Jesus anticipates our frustration by telling us a parable that sharpens our radar to discern the realities of this world and the kingdom of God.
